Report of Int'l LED & FPD Executive Forum and Seminar 2008

The International LED & FPD Executive Forum and Seminar (ILFS) 2008 was held from June 24 to 26, running concurrently with LED EXPO & FPD KOREA 2008. The program consisted of 3 sessions in one-day Executive Forum and 16 sessions in two-day Technology Seminar.

Invited speakers from five countries provided insight into the latest technologies, application markets and future potential for the LED and FPD industries.

The Forum presented senior executives from top tier companies who looked at the LED and FPD industries from a market and business perspective while the Seminar continued to highlight the most recent technical breakthroughs.

Executives from industry leaders such as Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Osram Opto Semiconductors, Kodak, Cambridge Display Technologies, Philips Lumileds and Sharp Corporation participated as panelists or speakers in ILFS 2008. Blue-light LED legend Shuji Nakamura, currently of the University of California Santa Barbara, was among the high level featured speakers. Dr. Nakamura contributed to both the Forum and Seminar. Michael Lebby, president of the Optoelectronics Industry Development Association, chaired the Forum program.

Breakthrough advances in OLED TVs is the most dramatic convergence of the LED and FPD industries today and was a focus of the Executive Forum. Speakers explored the impact of OLED and P-OLED lighting on the near and long-term future of the FPD market.

Looking to the future of solid state lighting, the Forum also addressed the role of government with a focus on the US and Korea-- in developing and promoting the next generation of energy-saving lighting for the masses. A separate panel looked five years out at overall product trends and market strategies in the LED industry.

The Technology Seminar program covered a range of technical topics from Dr. Nakamura's presentation of the current status of GaN based LED and laser diodes to discussions of LED packaging technologies, the outlook of TF-LCD markets, optimization of white LEDs, high brightness/power LEDs, P-OLED microdisplays, and much more. The Seminar has rapidly become Asia's premier event for industry insiders to review the current state of LED and FPD technology today and look over the horizon to view tomorrow's technology breakthroughs..
